Amraphel
(am' ra fel) HEBREW: AMRAPEL
_______________

Amraphel, the king of Shinar, a city in Babylonia, joined three other kings to invade Canaan in the time of the patriarchs - possibly to protect or expand their trade with Egypt. During the incursion, Amraphel and his allies kidnapped Abraham's nephew Lot and his people. Abraham led a small army of retainers to victory over the kings and rescued Lot - a notable feat for the hitherto peaceful herdsman.
