Where are we now?

We are sitting on the porch of a beach house
facing East, watching the waves turn black as the sun sets behind us
heading west, behind the sand dunes

Where are we now?

We are walking in snow drifts up to our waist
trying to make it back to the cabin after a hike
faces red and noses frozen

Where are we now?

We are driving back home, late at night
Me, half awake with a ballgame on the radio
You, sound asleep on my right shoulder

Good night

Night, I say

pausing for a moment
hit keys
log off.
