She was:

Awkward at a distance

standing in the hallways of the Chemistry building

pulling on the sleeves of her green turtleneck sweater

until her hands were invisible

Looking impatient and cold

Because it was a colder than expected April afternoon

Winds having turned around to the North

the only person in the building not carrying any books,

the only one left in the hallway when classes ended

when whoever she was waiting for did not appear

staring at a diagram next to the elevator,

reading the instructions out loud,

softly,  just above a whisper,  as if it were a prayer

She was:

probably wishing she was

somewhere else.
