Spring evening at the zoo
the trees, mostly bare limbs
sway in the twilight

It is too early for leaves
too close to winter for shade
Bright colored balloons look out of place
up there, captured by those branches.

Urgent hands, reaching skyward
are for naught, they are not returning.

The trees are hoarding them.
I'm sure they have their reasons.
