A trade name owned by Sears, Roebuck, & Company for its private-label appliance line. First used in 1913 for a sewing machine Sears was selling, the Kenmore name did not make it to a large appliance until 1927, when Sears introduced its electric washing machine.
Over the years, Kenmore has been embraced by consumers as a high-quality product, some even forgetting that it's a Sears store brand. The Kenmore name can be found on Sears' refrigerators, washers/dryers, microwave ovens, vacuum cleaners, dishwashers, stoves, and sewing machines. Most products in the Kenmore line are made by larger manufacturers like Whirlpool and General Electric.
