An opera by Tchaikovsky. It tells the story of
Eugene Onegin and Tatiana. Tatiana is in love with Eugene,
but
she is rejected. At a ball, in a moment of rashness,
Eugene duels with and kills his friend Lenski.
Horrified, Eugene exiles himself for a number of
years. When he returns, Eugene meets his cousin,
Prince Gremin, who is now married to Tatiana. Eugene
is struck by her grace and beauty and declares his love for her.
She rejects him.
First performed on March 29, 1879 in Moscow.
The opera is based on the poem by Alexander Pushkin
of the same name.
