Pete's Wicked Ale is a medium-stout brew made by a division of the August Schell brewing company in New Ulm, Minnesota. It is one of the finest of the domestic pseudo-microbrews to appear in the late 80's/early 90's. The flavor, while not as dense and rich as some of the imports (Sheaf Stout comes to mind), is a touch sweeter and nuttier than its contemporaries.

An interesting bit of trivia -- in California, Pete's was available in two sizes, a standard bottle and a big boy. In Minnesota, I was amazed to find the large bottles did not seem to exist.

Pete's has since been eclipsed by other brews, either more uniform offerings by larger breweries* or quirky individualistic brews from "real" microbreweries.
