Europe's leading manufacturer and distributor of organic foods, founded in Legau, Germany in 1974 by Joseph Wilhelm, Hans-Peter Erlinger, and Jennifer Vermeulen. Working with organic suppliers in more than 30 countries, the company strives for 100% organic ingredients in their products. The company's standards for quality include social criteria, so in addition to seeking suppliers that strictly adhere to certifiable organic agriculture practices, the company seeks to minimize packaging, transportation costs, and increase economic fairness through the use of long term contracts and certified fair trade agreements with farmers in developing countries. The company also works with some of its suppliers to run biodynamic farms.

Rapunzel aims for 100% GMO-free ingredients, but they admit that though their products have no detectable levels of genetically-modified organisms (1 part per billion), they can no longer guarantee their products are GMO-free because of contamination from GMO crops cross-pollinating with non-GMO crops and potential mixing in transportation.

The company brought to market the first 100% organic chocolate bar and the first organic yeast.
