American theatre director. Son of
Viola Spolin. Co-founder of
the Compass, started The
Second City and Story Theater. He teaches at the New Actors Workshop in
Manhattan, a
graduate level
acting program, and at his
Wisconsin Theatre Game Center in
Baileys Harbor.
Apparently, when not telling his students that "Theatre is dead. It died thirty years ago. I don't know why you kids are doing this," and "Is it too much to ask to make an old man laugh?" his preferred style of directing is to shout at the actors like John Barrymore in Twentieth Century, only without any helpful advice.
