Eutrophic, adj. A term used to describe the nutrient content of a lake. This term denotes a body of water with a significant nutrient buildup, usually as the result of old age, leading to high biologic productivity. This also leads to a higher quantity of particulate matter suspended in the water, which can reduce light at lower levels. Dissolved oxygen is also reduced due to the effects of decomposition.
