I'm a weird Computer Science major, who for some reason enrolls in courses such as Theoretical Philosophy and spends all day on Everything2. Some say that I should get out more, I say that I have all the knowledge I crave right on Everything2, so why should I leave the house?
On a more serious note, Everything2 is serving as a catalyst for my interest in knowledge representation (a field in Artificial Intelligence where we study how to structure knowledge in a way understandable by computers). Sure, Everything2 is great and all, but it's quite unstructured; you really need to be an intelligent, sentient being in order to make sense of it all. I would like to study a system in which knowledge is stored in a much more formal system, in such a way that computers can reason using it. This could have enormous social implications.
