Weslaco is a
city in the
Rio Grande Valley of
Texas. It is a more or less
non-descript town. What I
like most about it though is that the city of Weslaco is named after a
company. Go
figure. The
information below is
cribbed from
http://www.weslaco.lib.tx.us/City_wes.htm
and gives some info on the name of the city.
The 1997 Census population of Weslaco is 27,812. The city is situated in the center of the beautiful Rio Grande Valley, located on US Highway 83, in the southeastern quarter of Hidalgo County. Weslaco was established in 1920 by the W.E. Stewart Land Co., from which the city's name is derived. It is about 8 miles from downtown Weslaco to the bridge across the Rio Grande to Nuevo Progresso, Mexico.
