Laughin' Louie is a
song by
Louis Armstrong, recorded by
him and his orchestra in either
1932 or
1933. I've
heard the
song once,
way the heck back in
elementary school. All I
remember was that is was
hilarious. I think it
started out as a
standard song, a
trumpet flubs,
musicians
giggle, another
instrument screws up, and it's all
downhill from there... the song
dissolves into
laughter. I could be very very
wrong about how the
song goes, but that's the
gist of it. I
think it was held up as an
example of
the joy of music by the
school's
music teacher.
I later learned that the song was recorded in one take immediately after Armstrong, a man who kept at least three small South American countries afloat with his pot-smoking budget, made his entire orchestra toke up, most for the first time. Since then, I've referred to reefer as 'a little of the Laughin' Louie'.
