Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) : Kahlo was a Mexican painter who was heavily influenced by both Mexican folk art and the burgeoning Surrealist movement. She created canvases using bold colors and a naive style (popular then, thanks to Matisse). Her paintings often had fantasy elements and odd objects scattered through them, but still had the Mexican folk art trope of always including herself in a major role. Often remembered for painting women with unibrows.
