"...so she takes her pills
careful and round
One of these days
She's gonna throw the whole bottle down"

Another horsedreamer's blues-Counting Crows

I know how they taste
chalky and dry, choked down with a glass of water
Until later
when they find me and take me to the ER
to put the tube in
so I can drink the Charcoal
and give them up

I know how the belt feels
around the door hinge
around my neck-it pulls-
and I lift my feet off the chair
and I turn purple (in the mirror on the other side of the room)
Until later
when they find me and take me to the ER
to run tests
and put a brace around my throat
and give me more medicine
that I can't even swallow
yet

I know how the razor feels
whitehot on my arms
long red ribbons across & up and down
and I know that if I stare at them
everything will fade to black
Until later
when they find me and take me to the ER
and put in stitches, again.
And cover my arms with gauze
and give me a stern talking to
and give me more medicine
that I'm not supposed to take
all at once

But I don't know how this is going to feel
wind in my hair
blood rushing in my ears
feet on the windowsill
looking at the ground below

Until later
when they find me.
