Variously known as a plunger or a snake. It is a device with a suction cup on the end of a stick, used to unclog drains and pipes.

Recently, one of these was used to help in CPR, saving someone's life. It would help lift the chest cavity. Of course, some company decided to make one specializing in this activity. This device was being field tested in St. Paul, Minnesota, but the FDA decided to halt the trials because the patients could not give informed consent, due to their unconciousness. It's part of a standard European paramedics rig.
