It included an appreciation by
Andre Maurois.
Lowell Barr provided
a "sparkling, modern translation."
The lovely and talented,
Sheliah
Beckett illustrated
Voltaire's novella with
grace and care, love and affection,
taste and refinement....
Fortunately, I found my copy of
Candide
before my French test.
Unfortunately, the only information I could
transfer from the text to the test was:
"It included an appreciation by
Andre Maurois.
Lowell Barr provided
a 'sparkling, modern translation.'
The lovely and talented,
Sheliah
Beckett illustrated
Voltaire's novella with
grace and care, love and affection,
taste and refinement..."
The teacher had fooled us;
the sample questions were not
even remotely like the questions
on the test...
SAMPLE QUESTIONS:
1. Who included an appreciation?
2. Who provided a "sparkling, modern
translation?"
3. Who is lovely and talented?
Needless to say I studied the wrong material.
