Joe Girardi is a veteran catcher in Major League Baseball. His major league career began in 1989 when he began playing with the Chicago Cubs. Girardi has had something of a journeyman's career, not spectactular, but with its moments. After playing four years for the Cubs, he was traded to the Colorado Rockies in 1993 for a short stint, before ending up on the New York Yankees in 1996. This was perhaps the best season in terms of statistics, for Girardi, who batted a respectable .294 for the season; furthermore, his third inning triple in Game 4 of the 1996 World Series sealed the fate of the Atlanta Braves, who ended up being swept in the series.

Girardi stayed with the Yankees through 1999, whereupon he became a free agent, and was reunited with the Cubs for the 2000-2002 seasons. A free agent once again at the end of 2002, he signed on with the St. Louis Cardinals for the 2003 season.
