A Greek vase painting technique where the pot was first covered in a white slip of very fine white clay. On this white background, black was used to outline figures, and brown, purple, red, and white was used for color. These were refined (as the Greek culture loved to do) from red-figured and black-figured vase painting styles. This refinement was considered a failure because the white clay would easily chip off and the color would fade within 50 years.
