At one o'clock in the afternoon
(It still being winter here)
My shadow stands a bit taller than me
- eight - nine - ten feet, maybe -
he wears a dark broad brimmed hat.
Might easily be mistaken for
the most respectable shadow
you've seen in a long while.
You might think he's wearing some
fancy Italian patent leather shoes.
puts meat an' potatoes on the table.
This shadow stops right in front
of the bench where people wait for the bus.
And reads purple block script in
jumbo child chalk
A city becomes a world when
somebody falls in love with one
of its inhabitants
And I don't care what the rest of you see
Cause I know that shadow
inside at least
is a punk.
I like it!
Instead of the single bullet theory
five o'clock shadow
Chalk can put us on the Moon
In your presence even my shadow acquires the sensation of touch
A city becomes a world when someone falls in love with one of its inhabitants
We ate sidewalk chalk until dawn, stopping only to cheer on passers by
I have always wanted someone to say to me what you just said
We had silent conversations
I knew silent footfalls would come in handy someday
Anyone could know just by watching her silent moves
seven years for one afternoon of blissful transgression
Or do we like time's children come also at last to the silent shadowlands?
You nature lover / you country punk / you bowl me over / I'm not that drunk
Trying to catch one clear promise out of the jittery confused language the night was whispering
here is the mutiny I promised you and here is the party it turned into
