Well, almost lactose free. This is for all of you aspiring cooks out there that love tasty treats such as brownies but can't handle any lactose. If you're watching your weight you may substitute butter with margarine and use a low fat or fat free chocolate syrup. They still come out just as delicious. The end result of this recipe are mouth-watering brownies that have a very soft, thick, and scrumptious texture.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/4 cups (295 ml) sugar
  • 1/4 tsp (3 ml) salt
  • 1/2 tsp (3 ml) baking powder
  • 1 1/3 cups (315 ml) all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup (177 g) baking cocoa
  • 3/4 cup (168 g or 1 1/2 sticks) butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) chocolate syrup
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) of water

Preheat: oven to 350°F. Grease, using non-stick cooking spray, a 13 x 9" baking pan or a slightly smaller pan if you desire more monstrous brownies.

Combine: sugar, butter and water in a large bowl. Stir in eggs, and chocolate syrup. Combine flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt in a second bowl. Then stir flour into sugar mixture. The batter may be slightly lumpy and the color may not be evenly distributed, this is normal.

Bake: for 25 to 30 minutes or until you can stick a toothpick in there and it comes out clean. Then proceed to eat away, but beware, they are too addicting to have just one.
