Mermaid-like creatures described in German folk tales and mythology. Often described as beautiful and deadly. They are associated with the Rhine for which they are named. Like many other mermaid folk tales, the Rhine Maidens are said to lure unsuspecting male sailors to their deaths, through use of feminine charms.

Rhine Maidens are featured in the play Das Rheingold by Richard Wagner.
