If you’re looking for something to liven up that veggie platter or to give some extra oomph to those bland tasting chips and you’re tired of buying that prepackaged goop from the grocery store you might want to consider the following recipe. It’s easy, it’s quick and it’s delicious.

Here’s what you need.

  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • About a cup and a half of finely diced white onions
  • 1/2 a teaspoon of kosher salt
  • A cup and a half of sour cream
  • 3/4 of a cup of mayonnaise – I would not recommend Miracle Whip.
  • 1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
  • Here’s what you do.

Heat the olive oil in either a small sauté and then toss in the onions and salt. Let it cook over medium heat for about twenty minutes or so or until the onions start to caramelize. Remove and let cool.

In a large bowl mix the rest of the ingredients and then add the cooled onions and stir thoroughly. Cover the bowl and slap it in the fridge for a couple of hours and when you’re ready to serve it give it another stirring.

If you’re the type of person who likes to experiment you can always enhance the recipe by adding some Worcestershire sauce, balsamic vinegar or substituting cream cheese in lieu of the sour cream. Either way, bon appetit!
