Dixiecrats is the popular name for members and leaders of the
States Rights Party that bolted the
Democratic National Convention in 1948 after adoption of the nation's first comprehensive
Civil Rights Plank barring discrimination.
They did not do well and the election was won by Harry S Truman and the Democrats.
