A region of Mexico. Placed in the north-east, it includes part of the states of Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosi, Queretaro, Hidalgo, Puebla and Veracruz. It has been inhabited since prehistory, and it contains the famous archeological site of El Tajin. Also remarkable is the port city of Veracruz, Tampico (capital of Tamaulipas) and Jalapa.

The mountains of the Huasteca offer some very impressive landscapes to the traveller. One interesting introduction to the area is to go from Mexico City to Veracruz via Jalapa (where a wonderful museum stands).

The Huasteca harbors great diversity, both in its inhabitants, in its geography (from very impressive tropical forest to white sand beaches on the Gulf of Mexico) and even in the cuisine. It is also home to huapango music.

There is a web site about it at www.huasteca.com.mx - they even stream Huasteca music!
