The high ruler
shimmered on my back as I looked at myself
Then back at him, glaring at me with an intense face
that seared mine, and I could not fight his expression;
I surrendered, burying my face into the chest of Earth
whose green, soft arms embraced me
and whose turning, drifting oceans lapped at my defeated soul
as I lay there, feeling my foe's great laughter
I begged Earth to send me back to the beginning.
I bade it farewell and watched it commit filicide,
taking me under its seas,
feeling myself glide with a sacred serenity
that I recognized as the call of my true mother.
