Accounting - that most hallowed, sacred, *YAWN* regular of traditions - is often, well, inconvenient for certain large corporations and certain individuals. They often feel a call to tell a different story - perhaps their own version of events - using... uh... different rules.

So what if there's only one set of rules in the accounting game - they're so restricting. So boring. One cannot express one's genius vision of the world using such paltry, confining conventions - so one must often get creative.

Oh yes yes yes... it's technically illegal to muck around with the numbers in the official ledgers. And so the IRS and the FTC might be a little touchy about one's altered version of events. It's best that these things be kept under wraps. Just between you and me.
