What you become once your
family and/or
friends fully
grasps that
you are a
computer-literate person. Once this happens, you will be constantly
pestered and
hounded for, essentially,
unpaid computer support for them, their
spouses, their
children, their
neighbors, their
bosses, and
total random strangers. At all costs, don't let this happen to you.
I have found that remaining totally ignorant of the workings of Windows has helped me avoid this fate, because I can always say "Oh, that's a Windows problem, I don't have any idea about that, you should install <some flavor of UNIX> instead." The down side is that, because I don't tell them any better, the rest of my family uses Windows 98 and Internet Explorer and uses companies like Earthlink as their ISP.
