Jayne Torvill, British ice skating champion; b. Nottingham, England 1957-10-07. Started skating at the age of eight and, by the age of 14, was a national champion as part of a team with Michael Hutchinson. In 1975, she teamed up with Christopher Dean for the Torvill and Dean partnership that would dominate ice dancing for the next twenty years.
In the latter years of her active career she became a choreographer for other skaters, originally in partnership with Dean and from 1999 onwards also solo.
