Full Metal Racket (thing)

The fourth album in a series of compilations released by Australian radio station Triple J's metal show called the Three Hours Of Power. It's a great album for those who like a little bit of everything with regards to their metal tastes and with two CDs of good metal it represents excellent value at the same time. The quality of the tracks varies from excellent (eg. Slipknot, Type O Negative, Alchemist, Fear Factory, Machine Head) to not so great (I personally found Emporer's Curse All You Men to be practically unlistenable and the inelegant thrash contributed by Sakkuth and Crypt were really not my cup of tea). Many independent and relatively unknown artists to go with popular tracks from metal heavyweights Slipknot, Coal Chamber and Machine Head. Patriotic Australian metallers will enjoy tracks from (the sadly now-defunct) Henry's Anger, Superheist, Queens Of The Stone Age, Dreadnaught, Alchemist and Segression. A veritable smörgåsbord of metal.

Personal Favourites:

• Henry's Anger - Personality Test (interesting and fast-paced contribution by this talented group of Aussie boys, the pace just never leys up and it's a good track to get psyched up to)
• Slipknot - Surfacing (a Slipknot fan classic and an anthem for the disenfranchised and victimised everywhere, once it gets going you either go with it or get the fuck out of its way)
• Type O Negative - Everyone I Love Is Dead (dark, haunting, emotionally-loaded goth metal anthem sure to appeal to those touched by death)
• Fear Factory - Resurrection (a grandiose, expansive, anthemic and hard-hitting track that combines vocalist Burton C. Bell's almost opera-like vocal abilities and the hard and heavy industrial crunch created by drummer Raymond Herrera, bassist Christian Olde Wolbers and guitarist Dino Cazares)
• Rollerball - Lost In Space (very listenable stoner rock with a decent melody)
• Machine Head - From This Day (first single and one of their best tracks from The Burning Red, it may be rap-metal (which pissed off long-term fans and metal purists alike and somewhat divided the MH fanbase) but it's rap-metal done well and with the same sterling professional touch that the band has maintained throughout their career)
