The most important strategic air base in Afghanistan, capable of taking the largest military aircraft. It lies about 15 km north-east of Kabul.

British troops from the Special Boat Service occupied Bagram airport on 15 November 2001. The small contingent of about 100 troops was intended to be the bridgehead to a larger commitment, but political wrangling with the Northern Alliance prevented this.

Bagram had remained in the hands of Ahmed Shah Masood until its capture by the Taleban in fierce battles on or around 1 August 1999.

Probably an interesting but perilous place for planespotting.
