Founded in
1974, Théâtre la Seizième is the only professional
francophone theatre company in
British Columbia,
Canada. The theatre company operates out of
Studio 16, a 100+ seat black box theatre in
La Maison de la Francophonie, in
Vancouver. The current artistic and administrative director is
Craig Holzschuh.
With a history of creating plays for children and youth, the company now produces repertory works for all ages, commissions new plays, and presents theatre companies from other regions of Canada. Further, Théâtre la Seizième is a provincial organization which offers activities and training in French-language theatre, including school tours.
