December 24

Christmas Eve: The night before Christmas, when one awaits either God or Santa Claus, which to the child is one and the same. One of the most joyous nights of the year (and one of the busiest shopping days).

Some say that ever 'gainst that season comes
Wherein our Saviour's birth is celebrated,
The bird of dawning singeth all night long:
And then, they say, no spirit dares stir abroad;
The nights are wholesome; then no planets strike,
No fairy takes, nor witch hath power to charm,
So hallow'd and so gracious is the time.

Shakespeare--Hamlet 1:1.

The first night for lighting the Yule Log. Eat cookies, drink eggnog, and stand under the mistletoe with your lover.
