In bowling, 'brooklyn' means hitting the head pin on the opposite side that the bowler should. i.e. a right-handed bowler throws on the left side between the 1 and the 2 pins and a left handed bowler throws on the right side between the 1 and 3 pins.

It is possible to get a strike when you trow brooklyn but it is less likely because of the lack of pin action.

Often, serious bowlers will call a brooklyn strike 'ugly' or 'sloppy.'
