An altered state of consciousness involves changing one's perceptions and conceptual frameworks so one can apprehend mythic reality. One might alter one's conscious state through meditation, mystic practices, or sincere participation in religious ceremonies (Christian religions, Judaism, Islam, pagan, etc.) or certain spiritual philosophies Buddhism, Taoism, etc.). Some cultures lack the American segregation of mundane reality from mythic reality.
