TLA for Ballistic Missile Defense, a pipe-dream which seems to have captivated an enormous number of people in the U.S. defense establishment and civilian policy area. Probably because it involves spending ludicrous amounts of money for something that will probably never get used, and if it does, who cares what happened before that anyway?

Such efforts have spawned the BMDO (the O is for Office) in the Pentagon, headed by one Lt. Gen. Kadish, who doesn't seem to really know what the word physics means, much less how it might, possibly, just kinda affect his mind's view of the system he wants to build.
