Integrase is a viral tetrameric enzyme that cuts the host genome and inserts its own genetic material. To do this, it has to make a double stranded break in the target DNA, hold on to the ends and splice the integrated DNA in. It uses a catalytic zinc, and forms a transition state similar to recombination junctions.
