A heavily eco-friendly book. It is the future, man has taken genetic modifications and control of his environment to the point that vast perfect farms exist, where the plants are specially created and only "allowed" insects crawl or fly.
But the planet reacts. Insects evolve a central brain that coerces vast cooperative effort to fight a war against the humans, to show them the error of their ways.
In some ways prophetic, when you consider the changes entering into agriculture today. The story is relatively fast paced, and keeps you interested.
