Republican Senator from Illinois

Peter Fitzgerald grew up in Inverness, Illinois. Fitzgerald attended Dartmouth College, where he majored in Latin and Greek. From 1982-83, Fitzgerald studied at the Aristotelian University in Salonica, Greece as a Rotary Foundation International Graduate Scholar. He earned his J.D. from the University of Michigan School of Law.

After graduating from Law School, Fitzgerald practiced corporate law for ten years in Chicago. Before his election to the U.S. Senate, Fitzgerald served for six years in the Illinois state Senate.

The Senator has a wife Nina, and a son Jake who he likes to go fishing with. His wife is a graduate of Smith College, The London School of Economics, and Harvard Law School.

Elected to the United States Senate on November 3, 1998, Fitzgerald is the youngest member of the senate.
