The USFA is the official
administrative agency for
fencing in the United States. Some of the USFA's main responsibilities are organizing the regional and national
competitions, keeping track of the
official rules and regulations, and selecting the US
representatives for the
Summer Olympics. They maintain headquarters in
Colorado Springs,
Colorado. Each regional section governs themselves, with the President of the section acting as a representitive to the USFA.
They maintain a quarterly publication called
American Fencing.
It was originally called the
Amateur Fencing League of America, but they changed the name on April 22, 1981 to make it more professional sounding (and to distance themselves from amateurism).
