A variation of the traditional
moonsault used in
professional wrestling.
To perform an
Asai moonsault (view the node
moonsault for info on how to perform a traditional one), the victim is lying somewhere around the center of the ring, parallel to the ring ropes that the executor is about to leap from. The executor takes a running start (sometimes necessarily jumping over the victim), jumps up onto the second rope, springs off doing a
backward flip and splashes onto the victim. Takes a hefty amount of balance, and one of the greatest moves to watch when done correctly.
Chris Jericho of the
WWF uses an
Asai moonsault as his
finishing move, although it is often called as a "Lionsault" by the announcers when he performs it.
