A dirt road is an avenue or trail for vehicles that is either in a remote area or it does not have enough traffic to warrant paving or applying oil and gravel. Dirt roads can become dangerous over time as they develop small bumps similar to a washboard. If one is traveling fast enough it is easy to lose control and to crash into the ditch on either side of the dirt road.
On some farms that span thousands of acres, most of the roads will be either dirt or gravel because of the expense of installing asphalt or concrete plus drainage.
The term "dirt road" is also a rude phrase concerning the act of anal sex.
