Hollywood screenwriter and director.

He got his first work on a film set in 1981 on the horror film Hell Night as a production assistant. He would then go on to write the screenplays for A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987), The Blob (1988) and The Fly 2 (1989) with Chuck Russell. He made his directorial debut in 1990 with the made-for-television movie Buried Alive.

First gaining recognition in the 80's, Darabont created his first successful film, The Shawshank Redemption, in 1994. This is one of my favorite movies. It was nominated for the Academy Award for cinematography, editing, score, sound, screenplay based from previous work, picture, and actor. The Shawshank Redemption was based on Stephen King's short story, "Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemption".

Darabont's other best-known film is The Green Mile (1999) which was nominated for the Academy Award for sound, writing based on previous work, supporting actor, and picture. This movie is also based on King's writing; it's the third picture he made based on his work (the other being a short film, The Woman in the Room, based on Nightshift).
