When Webshots Desktop is downloaded and installed on a PC
, it allows users to go to the Webshots site and download photograph
s (some of which are submitted by users) which can then be used as wallpaper
and screen saver
s. Furthermore, the software
will automatically download a new photo every day from the online library.
This is troublesome for IT departments. The daily query takes up valuable network resources, as does the constant downloading of new photos. The software itself can act up on a computer, and that's where the real pain begins. Since no business in their right mind would throw the support of their IT department behind maintaining and fixing a desktop toy, the standard solutiuon to any conflict is to remove the software. This can lead to the user becoming angry and defensive. It's just a bad scene all around.
I just got yelled at by a user for uninstalling his Webshots. Damn them.
