Every pilot on Disney's Jungle Cruise ride is issued a modified nickel-plated Smith and Wesson .38 Special when they take their boat out each day. The pistol fires two types of blanks: the "show" ammo is used in the part of the ride when a rogue hippo threatens the boat and the pilot shoots off a couple of rounds to drive it away. The other, louder type is called "breakdown" ammo and is used to signal the ride's foreman at the dock when things go wrong. The signals and their meanings are as follows:

  1. Two shots: All Clear
  2. Three Shots: Mechanical Difficulty - can't move
  3. Four Shots: Medical or security emergency - everyone proceed at full throttle to the dock
  4. Six Shots: Derailed, can't move
