By the spirits of the just
made perfect in their suffering,
teach us in our turn, O Lord,
to serve Thee as we ought;
to give and not to count the cost;
to fight; and not to heed the wounds;
to toil and not to seek to rest;
to labour; and not to seek any reward
save that of knowing that we do Thy Will.
Amen
The prayer of the Rover Scout Section, generally recited at every important Rover Event such as Inductions, Investitures, and Bootings.
It reflects the
Social Service nature of the
Rover's, as well as their
theme of
Medieval Knights.
I personally find it
gloomy and mildly
depressing, as do a number of other
scouters, however it is part of the
scouting tradition, and as such is rather difficult to
avoid.
