English architect, born 1661, died 1736.

Began his career as an assistant to Christopher Wren.

The following are some buildings designed by Hawksmoor:
Christ Church, Spitalfields, London, England (completed in 1729) - Something of a Christian ziggurat; the front elevation is a four-stepped rectilinear pyramid topped by a large obelisk. Combines classical Greco-Roman influences with an Egyptian flavor. The interior is heavily columned, and the entire building has a feeling of great weight. No soaring here.
St. Mary Woolnoth, London, England (completed in 1724) - A squat-looking pile of five main box-shaped sections. No obelisk this time, but still reminiscent of a classical temple.
Easton Neston, Northhamptonshire, England (completed in 1710)
St. George-in-the-East, Wapping, Stepney, England (completed in 1729)

Hawksmoor also designed the towers of Westminster Abbey.
