The Antarctic Circle is the southernmost latitude that receives direct sunlight at least once in each 24 hour period within a year. Unlike its Nothern Hermisphere counterpart, the Arctic Circle, the Antarctic circle passes only through oceans and a small northwardly portruding piece of Antarctica - thus there is no human habitation in its midst and no variety of terrains and climates. No human beings are native to the Antarctic Circle region or south of it. It lies at 66 degrees 30 minutes south latitude.
