A wonderful song by the
Algerian musician
Khaled, and one that you have probably heard before, even though you may not have been aware of it. I first became interested in this song when I heard in
The Fifth Element. For all of you wondering: it's the song that plays during the flying
car chase. After seeing the movie, I promptly went out and bought the
soundtrack. The cd was excellent track after excellent track, but as I went though I found that the "chase" song wasn't on there.
Ack!
I eventually found it. The song itself is can be classified as Rai: a genre of Algerian pop music combing traditional music with more western influences (for more info on Rai, read Divine_Wino's excellent writeup). It appears on the album N'ssi N'ssi, and the lyrics (translated) are from the liner notes.
