Joe Zawinul is a classically trained musician, and belongs in a category unto himself. His appetite for growth and change remains insatiable. He idolized Duke Ellington. Played in Maynard Ferguson's band where Miles Davis met him. Played for Cannonball Adderley. Then formed Weather Report with Wayne Shorter 1971. He liked and incorporated World Music into his own compositions. He was also a driving force behind the electronic jazz-rock revolution of the late '60s and '70s.
